Code of Ethics

Ethical Responsibilities to Children

This is important because childhood is a unique and valuable stage in the human life cycle. Our paramount responsibility is to provide care and education in settings that are safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive for each child. We are committed to supporting children’s development and learning; respecting individual differences; and helping children learn to live, play, and work cooperatively. We are also committed to promoting children’s self-awareness, competence, self-worth, resiliency, and physical well-being.

Ideals
I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed
through continuing education and training.

I-1.2—To base program practices upon current knowledge and research in the field of early childhood
education, child development, and related disciplines,as well as on particular knowledge of each child.

I-1.3—To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.

  1. Hello Janette, Your choice of Ethics code is a Hard core reminder that note all children live a stress free life. As a preschool teacher I have learned that are many positive traits every teacher should possess. One such trait is compassion. I believe it is important that we as teachers have compassion for the children and treats them in such a manner that they feel safe and cared for.

  3. Hi Lilliane,

I do believe that children should have stress free lives. They learn better when they are stress free just like adults. I'm glad that my resources were a great help to you. They are great for the classroom. Maybe we'll be in the next class together so we can chat some more. I wish you all the success as in your future endeavors.

  4. Hi Janette,
I do agree that as an educator we do need to recognize that each child is a unique individual that hase many different talents, qualities and traits that they bring to the table. I think that children are the spice of life in the fact that everyday they are learning new and different things and are very eager to share those things with you. We as educators need to nurture that as much as we can.

  5. Hi Love,

Thanks for your comment! This is why I always find out during the first week of school what each knows and don't know. They are all different and learn things at different times. I bet you are a great teacher along with Lilliane. :-)

  6. Janette,

As a previous student in mental health, ethics was a major part of our curriculum, as well as it should be. I am not sure I realized how important it is to this field as well but reading your intro to this blog helped put that in focus for me! Nice post!
